What is independent supported living?

Supported independent living is a service designed to boost quality of life.

Our independent supported living service is for people who do not want to live in residential care but can have difficulties coping at home. There are many reasons why you or your loved one might need additional support, and Safehands are able to adapt their approach to suit the individual. People in supported living have their own tenancy and are responsible for their own bills and living costs. We are there to offer help and guidance so that you can get the most out of your days and live a happy life on your own terms.

This extra support helps build confidence on the journey to living a more independent life and the ability to make your own choices.

What is supported living like?
Moving into supported living is a positive step towards independence
We encourage your loved one to be excited for their future, while building confidence and self esteem.

We set clear and achievable goals, which can range from cooking a meal each day to dipping their toe into the world of work and volunteering. We will support people to achieve more, whilst ensuring they are in their comfort zone.

Your loved one will be in their own home but our team are always on hand to provide emotional and physical support. We work hard to establish good relationships with family members and the wider support network so that everyone is involved. Supported independent living is here to support people living with:

Learning disabilities

Autism

Acquired brain injury

Mental health difficulties

Physical disabilities

Rehabilitation support

What to expect from Supported Living

We find the set-up that allows individuals to thrive

We know how important it is to feel safe and happy at home, so our team will spend quality time getting to know your loved ones and finding the right setting for them.

We’ll discuss where they would like to live, and whether they want to be in their own flat or have a room in a house with a small number of other adults who have similar needs. We ensure any access requirements are considered and assistive technologies provided, as well as making sure it’s close to shops, facilities and public transport links. We will constantly review the accommodation to ensure it still suits your loved ones needs and whether their requirements are evolving.
